La Baule, which began with the first World Investment Conference in 2002, offers a dynamic base for the joint consideration of issues relating to the attractiveness and competitiveness of Europe, contributing to the development of national and EU strategies for the implementation of the Lisbon agenda.

To this end, it brings together all those concerned, including business leaders, academics and representatives of unions and civil society, as well as specialists from regional and national development agencies and representatives of EU member states, the European Commission and the European Parliament.

The success of the first five Conferences has established the event as an effective forum for debate,with the participation of some 900 high-level international leaders and decision makers. It draws support from a Think Tank dedicated to the search for practical solutions and concrete proposals favouring effective and assessable European policies for growth, jobs and value.

Several of the Think Tank’s recommendations have been adopted by Community authorities, as illustrated by the central place of attractiveness in the New Lisbon Agenda.

The dynamics of the La Baule movement, the annual Conference and theThink Tank is backed by the Europe+ Foundation. This was set up by Ernst & Young and the PGA group to enhance effectiveness through daily links to all those in the public and private sectors, including representatives of civil society, who share a commitment to a stronger, more cohesive and more prosperous Europe.
